In the fall of 2003, Mike organized a 17-piece ensemble to play and record his original music.  The music encompasses a variety of styles, including straight-ahead jazz, latin jazz, classical music adaptations, flamenco, free jazz, etc.

The MFJO performs in and around New York City, and has several times been featured at the Flatiron Festival of Music.  They have also had a residency at the United Nations International School, giving clinics and concerts in with and for the students at the school.

Past and current member of the band have included Ingrid Jensen, Jason Rigby, Alan Ferber, Ryan Keberle, Will Vinson, Pedro Giraudo, Jeff Davis, and many others.
